Downtown SC BU15 Takes Trophy at 2013 Surf Thanksgiving Tournament

DSC’s BU15 recently received national attention for its victory in the prestigious Surf Thanksgiving Tournament.  The team defeated Arsenal and the Dallas Texans to advance to the final where it faced the host Surf Academy.  DSC prevailed in the final by a 1-0 margin.    With the victory at the Surf tournament, the team secured an automatic entry into the Summer Surf Tournament which is regarded as the most prestigious and most competitive youth tournament on the west coast.  The team’s tournament success confirms its regular season achievement to date.  The team sits near the top of the table in the highly competitive SCDSL flight 1.  The team has not yet lost a match during the regular season.

Downtown Soccer Club’s GU9, BU10, BU12, BU13 Black, BU14, BU15 and BU15 Black were all victorious on the opening weekend of the Southern California Developmental Soccer League’s 2013 Fall Season.  Gu9 went undefeated in the opening showcase for the season.  DSC’s new Mid-City BU10 recorded a 5-1 victory over Crescenta Valley Soccer Club.  DSC BU12 defeated Santa Clarita Valley SC 4-3.  DSC BU13 Black defeated LA Galaxy South Bay 2-1 and DSC BU14 shut out Crescenta Valley Soccer Club 7-0.  DSC’s BU15 started its SCDSL Flight 1 campaign with a 3-1 victory over FC Gloden State.  Downtown Soccer Club’s BU15 Black, defending Region IV President’s Cup champion, opened its season with 2-0 victory over the Central California Aztecs in Bakersfield.  More Photos.

Downtown Soccer Club’s GU19 team, coached by Mick Muhlfriedel, captured the trophy at the 2013 Xolos Summer Classic in Temecula.  During the tournament, the team went undefeated in four matches, outscoring opponents 20-2.  The team which was also a champion of a Silver Elite bracket in the Coast Soccer League, will compete in the prestigious Southern California Developmental Soccer League in the Fall.  In addition to the team trophy, DSC player, Elizabeth Mendoza, won the tournament MVP Trophy.

DSC U14 Black Wins 2013 USYS Regional Championship

DSC BU14 Black, coached by Sal Avalos and Fredi Gomez, won the 2013 USYS Region IV President’s Cup in Boise, Idaho. The team was undefeated through the tournament, defeating teams from Northern California, Colorado and Washington along the way to the championship. The team defeated Bay City from San Francisco’s Mission Youth Soccer League, 3-1 in the Final.

As regional champions, DSC BU14 Black, will represent the 14-state Region IV at the USYS National President’s Cup in July in Florida.

Downtown Soccer Club Joins SCDSL

SCDSLDowntown Soccer Club announced today that it has been admitted to, and will participate in, the Southern California Developmental Soccer League for the Fall 2013 Season.  The move to the SCDSL, regarded as the premier gaming circuit in Southern California, provides further validation of the extraordinary efforts of the DSC board and staff to bring access to the highest levels of competition to all players in central Los Angeles.  DSC will field 18 teams in the SCDSL Fall Season including several competing with many USSF Developmental Academies in SCDSL’s prestigious Flight 1.

The SCDSL was created in 2011 to serve the needs of clubs looking to have the ability to control player and team environments. The SCDSL platform and format were designed collectively by coaching directors from some of the most respected youth clubs in the country with an emphasis on providing a match day environment conducive to promoting player development.  The principal mission of the SCDSL is to allow all participating clubs to have the freedom to make decisions that are in the best interest of all their players and to place the League’s priority first and foremost on true player development.
